Where the name comes from.

Tamara loves animals and farming — it's where she's happiest. And she'll tell you that working with numbers and keeping books is a lot like sorting through a stack of hay: tedious, tangled, easy to get lost in. Her logo is a round bale — the organized, tidy way to store all that loose hay. That's the whole idea behind Haystack Business Solutions: we take the messy, frustrating pile and turn it into something neat, organized, and easy to find your way through.

the origin story.

It started by accident — in a very disorganized office.

Back in 2008, Tamara was working for an attorney who was, in her words, not organized in any way, shape, or form. His family also owned rental properties, and the mess was something she simply couldn't ignore — so she took it upon herself to get the bills, the rents, and everything else in order, and quietly became their bookkeeper. From there she started helping other property owners on Long Island. When she moved back to her home state of Massachusetts in 2017, she began helping a friend run the books for her business, and in March 2020 she officially founded Haystack. (Fun twist: she recently learned her Nana was a bookkeeper too — so maybe it was in the genes all along.)

25+years in business

Two decades of running businesses — not just bookkeeping them.

Before Haystack, Tamara spent 25+ years in operations, management, and administration across a remarkable range of industries: real estate and legal, restaurants, commercial manufacturing (elevators and automatic-door systems), and a venture-backed tech startup where she served as VP of Operations. She's built CRMs from scratch, written training manuals and standard operating procedures, managed staff, handled HR and corporate documents, and run accounting departments end to end. That's why she fits in so naturally with so many kinds of businesses — odds are she's already worked in a world like yours.

Her happy place has fur and feathers.

Tamara raised her two daughters as a single mom working from her home office on her 18-acre farm in Brimfield, MA. These days she primarily lives and works from her home office in Oakley, ID on her husband's family farm. Her coworkers out there include chickens, ducks, a couple of donkeys, and assorted other animals who are terrible with spreadsheets but excellent at keeping her grounded. While she'd love to be outside on the farm all day, lucky for her clients, she's got a knack for bookkeeping too.
